This month marks National Pharmacist Day on January 12. This gives us a great opportunity to recognize Charles River Community Health’s pharmacy team for their hard work and dedication every day! Here are a few facts about the CRCH Pharmacy and the work the team does every day to serve our community:
- A pharmacist attends school for 6-8 years and receives a Doctorate in Pharmacy.
- The CRCGH pharmacy team processes, bills insurance, and dispenses roughly 300-500 prescriptions and they work with about 200 patients EVERY DAY!
- Each of our two pharmacies carries over 1200 different medications – all of which are accounted for down to the tablet.
- 71% of Charles River patients issued a prescription have it filled at one of our in-house pharmacies. This is one of the highest prescription capture rates in the state – according to the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers.
- CRCH participates in the Health Resources and Services Administration’s 340b Program – which is a federally administered drug pricing program, that, while invisible to patients, helps our Pharmacy generate additional revenue for the Health Center to fund patient care.
- Our Waltham pharmacy underwent a significant renovation in 2024 – giving our staff much needed space. What you may not have noticed, is that during the construction, the Waltham Pharmacy team worked around dust, constant interruptions, a 40% reduction in space – all while keeping service and patient care consistent – and dispensing more prescriptions than ever. Talk about doing more with less!
- In addition to processing and dispensing medication, pharmacists are also experts in medication therapy – and are widely considered the most accessible healthcare providers to patients across the country.
Let’s take a moment and recognize the great work of the Charles River Community Health pharmacy team!
